One way to do a workflow for an autorouter would be to export an outline
of the area to route up to, including some metal layer pieces with netnames
to connect to, and all components in that same area.  Then use the autorouter
to route those, and its own minimal WYSIWYG GUI editor
to push, shove, place partial routed stuff and restart, etc.  Then import all the
pieces you like relative to something.  Relative to the centerline endpoint of
a trace you copied from the pcb layout would be an easy way.  Then when you
have the new stuff placed, do optimize rats and see if it is good.

Oh, for that scenario to work well, the selected footprints to route between
would be cut, then exported, then imported again, or there would be two of each
footprint.
