Seeing the outcome I'm glad you felt desperate :-)

One thing I've learned in other communities is that nobody, not even the
dumbest newbie, tries to harm intentionally. We all try to improve
things, discussions are mostly about which direction this is, nobody
tries to intentionally go backwards.

Newbies are more likely to make mistakes. So what? Instead of locking
them out it's much better to put measures into place which make such
mistakes harmless or easily reversible. This eases acting of experienced
people, too, a win for both.

Speaking of source code, using a distributed VCS is such a measure,
because every developer has a clone on his local disk. When it comes to
web pages, one can ask them to develop new pages in a seperate place,
first. Not much extra work, actually it just meets best practices of
experienced people.

My rule of thumb is: never delete or decline work of others. If newbies
want to rewrite pcb from scratch: let them, make it possible. Either
they're geniusses which actually manage to do so, or they learn them
selfs they can't stem it. A rewrite doesn't harm the existing version at
all. Still such a rewrite attempt has good chances to bring in some
parts which can be applied to the existing application for the win of both.

I'm happy about the direction geda-project.org currently moves.
