That’s a way to do it, but it’s inflexible and doesn’t scale well. Better to map generic standard gEDA footprint names to the real footprints downstream. Much more flexible.

And that’s a good thing. Gschem should not be tied to a particular downstream flow. It doesn’t have a SPICE model browser, either.
