For DOS, I mostly just use MS-DOS EDIT, but also use a VI clone called
Elvis. The VI.EXE calls ELVIS.EXE. It seems to have correct EX and ED
command support. Apparently, I have an older version, i.e., 1.8 (Jan
29, 1994) for DOS. This was as ELV18EXE.ZIP.
