not "da solution" but a solution. it depends on your requirements and 
whether you want to keep track of the memory allocated by strdup. you are 
making sure to check the return value of strdup right? you are remembering 
to free it, right?

also, i wish you would cut down on the sheeshes.

incidentally, strdup is not standard either.

and please don't remind me i have contradicted my wish of not posting on 
this topic again.
