I believe that the perl5/DJGPP maintainer set up the *build* for perl
5.52 with backslashes for a PATH separator, but I *think* that only
affects the build operation, not the value of @INC.

You might also try asking a question on changing default path
separators on the perl forum, comp.lang.perl.misc. I'm not an expert
myself, or I would try to give you more help.

Yes, the current "stable.zip" distribution (perl 5.6.0) does compile
"right out of the box" under DJGPP (v2.03, bash v2.03, gcc 2.95.2,
make 3.78.1). I have DL'd and compiled 5.6.0 within the last week.
There is a problem with the "make test" scripts, though. They do not
seem to run very well at all, even using the earlier bash 1.14.7(2)
that the maintainer recommends. The DJGPP perl maintainer is aware of
this problem, and I am trying to help him figure out why the problem
occurs. One of us will certainly report back here when the problem is
resolved.

And yes, Eli, I know I should upgrade my make version to 3.79... It's
on my list of "round to-its" for Real Soon Now... :) I may, in fact,
force myself to do it sooner rather than later to help eliminate the
make version as a component of the perl "make test" problem.

HTH.
