Hi again,

I'm sorry to say that my problem description was rather vague; it turned
out that the real problem was in using `mkdir' for directories whose
absolute path names would be longer than approximately 66 characters.
I.e., if Ithe current directory is

 /23456789/12345678/01234567/90123456/89012345/78901234/67890123/

then `mkdir 56789012' fails.

I believe similar things apply to `rm -r'. I am doing all this from bash,
and have not tried gmkdir yet.

Regards,

---Arne
