Yes, gxx from djdev will free you from the need to add -lgpp.

I suggest to rename gxx.exe from gpp281b.zip to gpp.exe, and then
unzip gxx.exe from djdev again.  This way, you have both of the
programs (they have different functionality) and could use either one
as the need arises.

I use -O2 almost always.  The differences are documented in the GCC
manual (type "info gcc invoking optimize" from the DOS prompt), they
are too long to reproduce here.
