If You have problems with Alegro You didn't have before than this is one 
think to do. Take care that some versions of Alegro 3.0 (except newest 
archives) checks for presence of cc1.exe in %DJDIR/bin but this is no more
there. Edit makefile (or download newer version if You already didn't do 
this).

I have ment problems with C++ programs built with gcc 2.8.0 trying to 
use them with 2.8.1 (unrersolved external references). Didn't see 
problems with C yet.
