I actually did it to test if I could get a display out of the 
secondary display adaptor (the Hercules card). I did it by
going into the BIOS and selecting "Display Type: Mono".
My BIOS gives me a choice of "EGA/VGA","Mono","CGA".

I have a fairly new IBM 6x86 P200+ processor, and am pretty
sure have the latest version of the American Megatrends BIOS.

No, I can't start Windows 95 using the Mono Monitor.
It doesn't support hercules graphics anymore.

Spot on, that was the exact problem.

Thanks for your help Robert, I'd already followed up to my post with
what I'd done wrong. I also suggested that it might be a good idea
to put a short passage in the RHIDE help, under the section "Dual
Monitor Debugging", about that EMM386 error.
