You have to be a win32 program in order to use DirectX, not a DOS app,
so Allegro would need to be ported to Windows. This would involve a
major rewrite of all the graphics drivers, sound drivers, and IO
routines. Not to mention the fact that Allegro contains a lot of asm
code and gcc-isms, and at the moment there is no polished Windows
version of gcc (no, I am _not_ interested in trying to make Allgero work
with Visual C :-)

It has occured to me that a Windows port would be a good idea, but it's
not something I'm going to have the time or resources to do in the
forseeable future...
