This is true for the Classic and ACE. I've heard the MAX does support
protected mode. This came from a conversation I had about Sam 'n' Max Hit
the Road. My classic wouldn't work but someone's MAX would. I now have a
GUS classic and an SB16. Now I don't have to worry. :-) It's worth the
extra $60 for the full compatibility. True, you use up another slot and an
IRQ and DMA, but them's the breaks. Or you could lose the full duplex
thing on the GUS if you never use it.
