Subject: Extended memory question - DOS 5.0

> I don't know my way around the thicket of DOS memory extenders.

When I suggested that you might be running out of memory, I meant the ordinary
640K DOS memory, not EMS, XMS, extended, etc. One thing you might try is a
program which swaps emacs to disk when you suspend it and start another
process. One such program is SHROOM2D.ZIP available in the msdos.sysutl
directory at Simtel20 and mirror sites. I have not used this program with
gcc, but it did enable someone here to run ftp under ARJ.
