Nope, that wasn´t it.

>rpm -qa | grep c++
libstdc++-2.9.0-3mdk

I ´ve fixed the problem (for now), by replacing the pgcc packages with the
original egcs packages (and all required dependent packages) from RedHat
6.0.

>rpm -qa | grep egcs
egcs-objc-1.1.2-12
egcs-1.1.2-12
egcs-c++-1.1.2-12

I did have some older egcs´s on the system that I have removed now as
well. I guess Mandrake´s (and redHat´s) update procedure could be improved
by checking for and removing older compiler RPMs.
