Sorry for my english...
I also get this error 8-(

In my case this error contains in file ~/egcs-1.1b/gcc/auto-host.h
After configure this file is right, but after make some string was appended.

One of this string bad!
this bad part of my file:

TOP


/* Define if you have the atoll function.  */

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I remove strring TOP and all OK!

My system:
slackware 3.2
kernel 2.0.35
egcs-1.1b (or gcc-2.7.2)
libc-5.4.46

This error also exist in egcs-pgcs-1.1a.
