Thanks Nick,
That now makes sense, however the reference in [2]:

"The #'s have a one-to-one correspondence to the pinseq attributes and 
specify which pinnumber=# is used during display (gschem) or netlisting 
(gnetlist)."

Is probably what confused me in the first place.
It could be explained more clearly.

All is working as expected now.
