I'm glad it is a feature that will get some use.

I think that FOSS EDA suites being able to pool and share design
efforts is valuable, since the intellectual commons of layouts,
footprints and schematic symbols is an important shared resource that
can save un-necessary reinvention of the wheel.

Please let us know if you encounter any bugs.

If you wait for the imminent implementation of kicad s-expression file
format export, there will be less potential for minor rounding errors,
as the s-expression format uses millimetres to 3 decimal places, as
opposed to decimils (0.1 mil) for feature dimensions in the legacy
format.
