Joining the others, sharing my preference: I'd go for pcb-rnd and gschem 
(for now). As long as there are bugreports on pcb-rnd I keep fixing them, 
so the project doesn't die. If someone can collect and demonstrate real 
user demand of a specific feature I am willing to implement it. There are 
(and will be) alternative implementations of gschem too, so not all eggs 
are kept in one bucket.

About KiCad vs. geda: I think geda and pcb are very good in being "unixy". 
If you have a strong preference for this "unixy" way, I think this family 
of software is probably still the best out there.
