According to the pcb-rnd feature poll, this is one of the features I 
likely to implement in the near future in pcb-rnd. I have plans to do it 
the same way as you described: lie to all parts of the code that we are 
drawing a single wide trace, then replace it with 2 (or more) traces at 
the end (the moment the user clicks).

If you finish your script before I get to do this feature, please share 
your experience about using this trick!
