I too witness a loss of grid occasionally. When in this state, the GU 
behaves like the grid is infinitesimal small. (Shot in the dark: 
Maybe, it is an issue related to the cmil to nm conversion)

I found, a restart of the application is the only way to get the 
pointer snap to "my" grid again. 

Unfortunately, I have not been able to spot the exact circumstance 
that trigger the loss of grid. So no recipe how to reproduce.
