I have asked "the guy" (one of them anyway) behind AP210, just that
question... does he know how much the ISO takes on access to the STEP
standard at this price.. and does he think they would even consider
negotiating a one-time fee to make it freely available. (Got to be a
price, right?)

Would making it more available (as a means to out-compete a new
standard I hear rumors of being started) - be considered?

Would some kind of access deal for open-source developers or
non-profit making individuals in general be considered? (I assume no,
since everyone is an individual outside of work time - right?)


To my knowledge the Ada reference manual is VERY unique in its freely
available status, despite being an ISO standard. This came about due
to its origins within the US government.

Its a shame this didn't apply to STEP, despite having a HUGE amount of
input from the guys at NIST, NASA etc..
