--089e0122f088b62cea052759bba9 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 The next thing I'd like to work on is adding a lot of tooltips and expanding some of them. I'm hoping this will be fairly quick and easy. Why: * There are features that users don't find because the menu names aren't quite descriptive enough (e.g. Lock/Only/Hide Names would have been useful to me). * There are features that are hard to use even when their purpose is obvious, because complex actions are required after the tool in question is selected (e.g. maybe I'll learn how to draw polygons along the way :) * It will help me in becoming aware of as many PCB features as possible How: * Add entries to (g)pcb-menu.res.in, sort out why the few tips already there don't show up for me. * Create the usual devel branch, hopefully others can help fill in tooltips for features they are most familiar with Questions: * Some of the tooltips might need to get slightly bigger to be useful, so might get annoying. So it might be nice if their was an obvious way to turn them off. I guess it would be an entry in Preferences->general. Whether it's worth it would depend on how annoying people find them. * Is there any way to describe things like the switch-layers-while-drawing-line-to-magically-add-a-via trick that people will actually read? It took me a long time to find out about it and others have had the same trouble Britton --089e0122f088b62cea052759bba9 Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <div dir=3D"ltr"><div style=3D""><br></div><div style=3D""><div>The next th= ing I'd like to work on is adding a lot of tooltips and expanding</div>= <div>some of them.=C2=A0 I'm hoping this will be fairly quick and easy.= </div><div><br></div><div>Why:</div><div><br></div><div>=C2=A0 * There are = features that users don't find because the menu names aren't</div><= div>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 quite descriptive enough (e.g. Lock/Only/Hide Names would= have been useful</div><div>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 to me).</div><div><br></div><div>= =C2=A0 * There are features that are hard to use even when their purpose is= obvious,</div><div>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 because complex actions are required afte= r the tool in question is</div><div>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 selected (e.g. maybe I= 9;ll learn how to draw polygons along the way :)</div><div><br></div><div>= =C2=A0 * It will help me in becoming aware of as many PCB features as possi= ble</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>How:</div><div><br></div><div>= =C2=A0 * Add entries to (g)<a href=3D"http://pcb-menu.res.in">pcb-menu.res.= in</a>, sort out why the few tips already there</div><div>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 don= 't show up for me.</div><div><br></div><div>=C2=A0 * Create the usual d= evel branch, hopefully others can help fill in tooltips</div><div>=C2=A0 = =C2=A0 for features they are most familiar with</div><div><br></div><div><b= r></div><div>Questions:</div><div><br></div><div>=C2=A0 * Some of the toolt= ips might need to get slightly bigger to be useful, so</div><div>=C2=A0 =C2= =A0 might get annoying.=C2=A0 So it might be nice if their was an obvious w= ay to</div><div>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 turn them off.=C2=A0 I guess it would be an e= ntry in Preferences->general.</div><div>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 Whether it's w= orth it would depend on how annoying people find them.</div><div><div><br><= /div><div>=C2=A0 * Is there any way to describe things like the</div><div>= =C2=A0 =C2=A0 switch-layers-while-drawing-line-to-magically-add-a-via trick= that people</div><div>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 will actually read?=C2=A0 It took me a= long time to find out about it and others</div><div>=C2=A0 =C2=A0 have had= the same trouble</div></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div style=3D"">= Britton</div></div></div> --089e0122f088b62cea052759bba9--
