Well, I haven't studied pdf much, but page 92 of below, says:

 "PDF is not a programming language, and a PDF file is not a program."

I thought pdf was more like a data structure, that could be used by a
program. Whereas postscript (can be seen as pdf's prequel) is a 
programming language.
