I don't fully understand the details but you are able link them together in sort. If it could be done without extra information in the schematic file it would be better because it keep file simpler.

In any case if forward annotation of attribute values work information from a symbol must end up in the same footprint and in such case it must be possible to also forward annotate the refdes value although it should only happen exactly once. So does forward annotation of attribute values work?
