Decision making in private, i.e with no communication to the general
public, was the way to run all things geda since at least 2009. It seems
plausible, that this contributed to drive the project into the sad state
which it currently is. Make people feel not involved and they tend to walk
away where they feel more welcome.
Note, I am not lobbying to hold general votes. The keyword above is
communication.

There is a tradition to let patches bit rot on launchpad. New ideas get
relegated to "plugins" "feature-branches"
Back in 2009 when I was motivated to get involved in geda coding, I had to
ask several times with weeks or months in between on the list to read "no
time" and finally "don't like".

Ideas need to be tossed and turned and seen from different angles before
they are warranted the effort to get them into code. What turns out to be
great or not so much can only be known with hindsight. There is no way to
properly triage ideas in advance.
BTW, I for one am very happy that this list got active after a much too
long lull.

Launchpad bug discussions lack some key properties to provide a general
discussion infra structure. Most glaringly, there is no proper way to have
several

Moving topics to a closed list puts those off, who are outside the gates.
This may be acceptable in a situation where crowd are eager to join.
However, with geda the opposite is true. The project desperately needs
contributors.
