Subject: [geda-user] Does hid.h support pan as a command? How to pan not using mouse?

I didn't see something like pan_to (some_screen_coords) and noticed this
todo entry under the lesstif heading:

Pan(x, y, zoomfactor) - pans screen, zooms, sets crosshairs on coordinate

If there's not lesstif Pan does that mean its not available as a public HID
operation?

There is the HID_SC_PAN_VIEWPORT option to set_crosshair but so far as I
can tell it doesn't work. It puts your cursor in a funny place but the
viewport doesn't move. It was unused before I tried to use it to fix the
DRC so it would pan to the violation even if it was off-screen, to make the
cross-hair snapping work consistently.

What's the right approach to fix this situation?
