IMHO, it would be worthwhile to release at least as often as the Debian 
project. A two year release cycle is not exactly hectic.

Unfortunately, the configure script complains about missing stuff. But 
does not tell what it was actually looking for. So it might complain about 
missing GTK2 when all it really needs is the *.h files from GTK2.

Since he is on ubuntu which is debian based, I'd recommend to run this 
command beforehand:
	apt-get build-dep pcb
This will install all the packages needed for a build of the regular pcb 
package. Since current git head did not add massive amounts of additional 
dependencies, this should pull almost everything you need.
