First, I notice that my system's rendering of the layer group buttons is EXTREMELY indistinct: I cannot actually see which buttons are selected at all!!! I may have ruined any default settings by accident now! (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, default GUI appearance). I wish for unmistakeable contrast in future versions! I shall try reverting the layer settings to the ones I inherited with this job 2 years ago; 'component' = red = component side, and 'solder' = blue = solder side. Matt
