Agreed. We had a long discussion about this on the list with no
measurable results afaik. Btw, I've sent you a list of suggestions back
than for your essential lib too, mostly minor things.
I tried to address this in pcb-rnd, but it obviously doesn't fly without a
cleanup on the sym side. Anyway, I have parametric and static footprint
support for anything common enough for a newbie to meet in the first few
months probably, without redundancy and exotic parts. All accessible on
the web too. 95 footprints total.

Maybe that'd be my next big projet in pcb-rnd, I'm not yet sure. The main
problem is that I'm not using these at all.

I made good progress on this yesterday. I have most of the GUI addons in
gschem I needed for this and almost finished writing the code that parses
my back-annotation format.
