The only thing which is missing right now is a Scheme wrapper which 
executes the gafrc and gnetlistrc configuration files, reads geda.conf, 
and passes the appropriate command-line flags to the netlister.

But even better, it does!  It's basically the same code, so (except for 
the inevitable bugs) there should only be some minor, well-documented 
differences.

What in particular do you consider worth getting rid of?
