I don't think it's too complicated to fix such issues. Can you write a bug report? With a sample layout and an approximate script?

Maybe access through stdin/stdout in best Unix tradition is the best way to connect to other software. This way each tool is independent, big parts of an "API" exists already. Moving the mouse is possible, too, I'm just not sure wether this is the best way to query a layout.
