Dave,
It is not ludicrous. If I thought so, I would not have posted. Users
should not need to be technically-oriented to use the tools. All they
are trying to do is document a project or produce a product. My work is
both. Some of my geda work is to produce a PCB design, but the vast
majority of my work is to document a project, PCB or not. Not all of
the users are software engineers, let alone be interested in the inner
workings of the tool's software. In my engineering career, I have met
many hardware engineers who did not want anything to do with software,
and I am talking of young engineers fresh out of school, not ossified
ones. I tried to convince them that they would be twice as useful to
employers if they knew both disciplines, but they were adamant.

When I first looked at LCAD, I got on their user's list to see how much
help they were giving to users. If I were to do that to the geda-user
list this past week, I would have found very little help being given to
users and probably not commit to use geda for my work. I would expect
many users, myself included, do not care anything about the inner
workings of the tools. I care about whether it works for me or not and
I am productive with it. If not, the user's forum is my first place to
ask why it isn't working as I would expect.

After getting about 100 messages a day this past week, of which I
deleted about 99% of them, I was tempted to block all messages from the
geda-users list or even (horrors) unsubscribe. That does not help the
geda project. Especially if I am not the only user who thought so.
Having to read through all those messages to see if it is worth saving
is a waste of my time.

Bring back the devs list!

Girvin Herr
