Yes, I have to admit that there is really not much hope.

All FOSS development seems to have dried out in the last 10 years. Linux
kernel contribution is now mainly by companies, not by independent
people. GTK have very few developers left. For KiCad Mr Hollenbeck
retired, and the remaining Kids seems to generate much noise, but do not
contribute much value. Cern? I dont't know. Qucs? Maybe theory is too
difficult. Fritzing? Have not heard much about it in the last years.
