In my current project I added things like cable side mating connectors
and jumpers for the BOM. Works out pretty well, however I do add them to
schematics with other components. I can edit the attribs using gattrib.

However if I only add a couple of these "accessory" symbols and no
symbol containing a pin to an empty schematic gattrib refuses to open
it.

By the way, I only have one general accessory.sym which I use to add any
non-electrical component by giving it the proper attributes (i.e.
ordering number and name), see attached.
