I think a lot of it is a result of doing it in two languages. Libgeda does the parsing in C, but the high level is Scheme. It’s connected by some fairly complex C code in gnetlist that gives the Scheme level specific views into the C data structures. Peter Brett told me he was working on an complete implementation in Scheme, but he apparently never finished.
