I opened the Gerbers with 2.6.1, and I do see the layout.
However, I had to zoom out / pan quite a lot to see anything. Originally
I get positioned at the origin, whereas the contents of the Gerbers are
start at about 60-70cm (~25 inches) up.
Try zooming out to see if your version actually loads the files correctly.
