non-conformant is fine. An open developed tool/set of tools needs to
be user configurable/user programmable, or there is not enough agreement
to develop it by us amateurs without financier-for-profit funding.
I'll be doing some documentation writing in a while and clear up some
of how to set keybindings. I'm just not able to divert from task right now for survival
reasons.

The Fritzing main developer has said he sees a progression to geda as

You bet it would. If all conceptual bits on a schematic were searchable,
they would be taggable and relatable to other physical design bits, etc. etc.
for a big gain in usefulness. Think of fore and back annotation for modeling purposes.
