All these ideas are reasonable, by the way - so thanks. The fab house 
seems okay with the extra "slots" layer but I worry they will get it 
wrong. So I'll stick with the break away of the mounting tabs. Turns out 
they are plastic so soldering is out. But, the connector has a screw 
mount to attach it to the panel - I completely forgot about it.  This 
will make it pretty strong.  FYI, this is a vertical stacked 1X2 RCA jack.
