I don't think that it is possible at all.

Somehow related is what should happen when I change e.g. line width
using L and/or Shift-L while in one style, then switch to another
style, then switch back to the style where I changed line size.

The style is not deselected, so part of me expects the line width
changes to stick, another part expects to use the actual values of
the style.

As-is, changing line width does not change the style, so then the
style should no longer be selected.

Maybe the meaningful way is to *do* change the style, but allow to
also reset every style back to the presets? That way they can (and
should) remain selected in the radio group.
