The new Scheme API should certainly not be considered "under the hood". The Scheme API is extremely important to users. The most important distinction between gEDA and the usual mediocre consumer software is its openness to user additions, both via external scripting (makefiles, etc.) and internal scripting (Scheme).

This is a matter of style, not a bug. I think the little square at the end of a not-explicitly-connected segment end makes such things easier to see in printed schematics. I think it's a good thing for readabilty. Others may disagree, so this seems to me to be a thing that should be configurable.
