Subject: [geda-user] PCB sync request for the upcoming Ubuntu long term support release
To: geda-user AT delorie DOT com
Reply-To: geda-user AT delorie DOT com

Hi,

I upgraded to the PCB 20110918 snapshot in the last week and I'm
finding it solves various problems I had with the previous snapshot.
Congratulations and thanks to the devs.

The next version of Ubuntu, 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) is in development
and due for release in April 2012. It is one of the every-two-years
Long Term Support releases, which means it gets used for longer and
they are more conservative about package updates during development. I
understand that for LTS releases they sync from Debian "testing"
instead of "unstable".

PCB 20110918 is currently in Debian unstable but not testing. So at
the moment I think the version of PCB due for release in 12.04 is
20100929, which will be more than 18 months old in April [1].

Given the large number of bug fixes etc since the last snapshot (and
because PCB is a non-essential package) I would expect that a sync
request for pcb from unstable would be accepted, if I've understood
the process correctly.
Does that sound sensible? If so shall I do it, or does someone else
better know what they're doing?

Justyn
