I normally open the .pcb file simultaneously in a text editor and in
the PCB application.  I make graphical edits in the PCB application,
but some changes are more easily done in the text editor (IMHO).
Modifying a component falls into this category for me.

The simple, human readable text file format is one of PCB's good
points - use it to your advantage.
