I used such live CD in education for some time years ago. The main 
drawback is that windows users usually do not want to boot to another 
system and it is very hard to convince them that the live system won't 
ruin their hard disk. Back than I also had problems finding a suitable 
live-cd distro to hst geda (nowdays I'd choose grml).
