I looked in System -> Administration -> Additional Drivers, and the
only unactivated option was "Experimental 3D support for Nvidia cards"
(or some such). There was no option for proprietary Nvidia drivers, so
I'll have to figure out how to get them installed at the end of the
day.

I have tried this, and it works. Holes and clearances work properly,
but it has the same slow choppy feel as --disable-gl.
