I have not tried to build Emacs myself.

About gdb: one could use some older GDB version with GCC-3.4.6 and 
rebuild it using DJGPP v2.05. One thought:
- use configure option --program-suffix=... to be able for it to be 
installed together with current version

Which version to choose for that? Any thoughts?
