They should not overlap.  Mapped memory (such as video frame buffers,
etc) are managed using different APIs and memory space than malloc()ed
memory.

There is between 1GB and 4GB of address space available for DJGPP
applications (depending on OS and DPMI provider) - which is usually
more than enough for both.  In rare cases with large mapped memory
and large memory requirements (>250MB) there can be some conflicts,
but these are rare and usually would just result in a malloc() failure.
