Not sure, but they do have disadvantages. Windows 98/SE/ME only supports DPMI 0.9, plus math coprocessor and int 0x2f functions from DPMI 1.0. So, if you use other functions exclusive to DPMI 1.0, your application will run under real-mode DOS, but won't run under protected-mode Windows 98/SE/ME in a DOS-box or at the command prompt.
