My only suggestions are:-
a) have a look in teh V2TK directory for other sound libraries, don't
rememebr if there are any in there.
2) search www.google.com 
3) have a look at sound libraries under linux and see if you can port
one of them. This is a long shot.
4) Goto the Allegro home page and see what you can find and have a
look at the links, the url is http://alleg.sourceforge.net/
