For the xfer timing you suggest, DMA would be a goood choice.. this is a
little tight for interrupt
handling especially when you mention the nasty windoze word..
you could try RTOS-32 (http://www.on-time.com).  this might help, but I
suggest you rethink your hardware
to reduce the bottleneck..
