Some questions so that the scope problem can be narrows down:-
Which version of DJGPP and GCC are you using? 
Have you tried running from MS-DOS or FreeDOS? Does the app still lock
after a few minutes?
Are you using Allegro 4.01 or soem other version?
What sound card do you have? PCI or ISA? 
Does the Allegro setup program work?
Does the Allegro Demo keep working after a few minutes?
